Dipannita Sharma, was born in Oil India Limited. His father was a doctor at the O.I.L Hospital. He studied at the Infant Jesus School, Krishna Nagar, Guwahati to his ninth level (high school), and pursued the rest of his school academics from the Santa Maria school, Naharkatia.
Sharma came into the limelight after making it to the final five of the Miss India 1998 contest.

Her younger sister is a television actress Arunima Sharma who is best known for her role as Rano in the soap opera Kasamh Se.
